Zipper Icon

Question: I just received an attachment from a friend and the icon has a zipper on it. What does this mean? Is it safe to open?

Answer: I would not open the attachment unless you are 100% sure of who sent it to you. Even then, I would call the person and ask them if they sent you an attachment. And then I would run a virus scan on it before I opened it! About the zipper icon, compressed folders are distinguished from other folders by a zipper on the folder icon.

Backing Up Files

Question: What I would like to do is back up my files or programs that I created while using Vista Home Edition. I am seriously considering buying Windows 7. Please could you give me some easy instruction on how to back Vista -using, (Sony, CD-RW 700 MB/Ma, 80, min) ?

Answer: Backing up your files prior to installing Windows 7 is a must. The easiest way to do this for you is to use Windows BackUp in your system tools. To do this,

1. Click on the Start Button, then
2. All Programs, then
3. Accessories, then
4. System Tools, then
5. Backup Status and Configuration.

Follow the prompts to select your disk drive that you want to back up to. Make sure you have enough discs. Then click start. If you are backing up a lot of files, you will need a lot of discs.

Before you purchase the 7 upgrade, make sure your computer is able to accept the upgrade. You can go to Microsoft and download their advisor program which will check out your system and make sure you can upgrade successfully.

Task Bar

Question: My taskbar is double at the bottom of my screen. How do I resize to get it back to normal. I am using windows xp home edition.

Answer: This is an easy fix. Move your mouse cursor to the top border of the taskbar. As you move over the border, it will turn into a double headed arrow. When it does that, left click and hold down the mouse button.  Then drag the border to resize the taskbar. That's it.

Installing a New Game

Question: I bought a game when I started to program it a message came on that said I had to create a file I do not know how to do this so I could not enter the game can you help also I have a lap top pc and would like to have wireless how do I do this I do not know much about the pc read a book but not understanding thank you.

Answer: When you got to the point of creating the file, did you have a dialog box pop up offering you to create a default file?  If so, just click okay and that should take care of it.  If not, I'm afraid you'll need to contact the manufacturer of the game for specific instructions.  Usually they have a website to offer help.  Check the package for their website.

As to setting up a wireless network in your house (I am assuming that is what you are asking about) not only does your laptop have to be wireless, you need to have a wireless modem in your house.  If you have those already, then it is a simple matter of turning on the wireless adaptor in the laptop and pointing it to the wireless device in the house.  Does your laptop have a wireless adaptor in it?

Image Size of E-Mails

Question: How do I increase the size of the message window, thereby decreasing the size of the listed emails. I'm sure there is a simple procedure, but have forgotten how?

Answer: You are correct that it is a simple procedure to change the sizes of the message list and message window.  Simply move your cursor to the border between the two (I am assuming you have the message list above the reading pane) and it should change into a double headed arrow.  Once it does, click and hold and move the line to where you want it.  Release the mouse button and you're done.

Digital Picture Within a Document-Windows XP

Question: How can I put a digital picture in a document?

Answer: To insert an image file into a document:

• From the Insert menu, choose Picture.
• Choose File, locate the file, then click Insert.

Another method is to simply copy a picture you have open in a graphics application or from Explorer, then paste it into your Word document.
